Week 27: Feed My Starving Children’s Mobile Packing event with Liquid Church: A Holiday Poem

Pastor Tim calls Christmas the season of light

and encourages us to find ways to shine bright

by sharing love and kindness to others in need,

And one way to do this is through doing good deeds.

So when Liquid Church held Feed My Starving Children’s Mobile Packing event,

my husband and daughter and co-workers went.

Tables and tables and hairnets galore,

food service gloves and a cardboard-lined floor….

Vitamins, vegetables, soy powder and rice

went into each package which then were sealed nice.

Through Santa hats, carols and festive décor,

we packed and we packed and then packed more and more!

5,000 volunteers over 6 shifts and 2 days,

worked to create 1 million meals in a haze

of laughter and cheer and friendship and fun,

and when it was over we were sad to be done,

But humble and happy to have been part of the mission,

to help FMSC combat malnutrition.

A few quick facts about FMSC and the Mobile Pack Event:

  • 6,300 children around the world die each day from complications related to hunger.
  • Overall, Liquid Church’s 2-day Mobile Pack event packed 1 million meals which are all being sent to Puerto Rico to continue to help the country recover from Hurricane Maria.
  • The nutritionally complete, vitamin and mineral fortified rice meal provided by FMSC was developed by a team of Cargill food scientists and colleagues from General Mills and Pillsbury, and is specifically created for malnourished children.
  • Our 2-hour shift packed 81,000 meals – enough to feed 221 children for a year!
  • Last year FMSC worked with more than 1 million volunteers who packed more than 284 million meals. They delivered the meals to over 70 countries!
  • Over 99% of the meals arrive safely
